Smart Tips to Prevent Your Debit and Credit Cards from Potential Threats

When dealing with credit cards, you need to be extra careful. It's a valuable item that you should not lose. However, if you are careless in managing them, then it can lead to serious trouble. Following is a list of options that will help you prevent your credit cards from potential threats. Here we go…

Tips to Protect Your Debit or ATM Cards and Credit Cards

  • Make sure not to reveal your account details to any financial organization unless and until the company is a reputed one.
  • You should not write your account details on top of any envelope or postcard.
  • Ensure drawing a line between the blank spaces on debit slips as well as check on top of the total amount. This makes sure that nobody is able to tamper the amount.
  • Avoid signing a blank debit slip or check.
  • Ensure damaging the unneeded carbon copies and carbons.
  • You can also keep your receipts in safe so that you can cross check them whenever needed.
  • Make sure to destroy the cards that you are not using. Before throwing them away make sure to cut the card into pieces so that the account number is not visible.
  • Compare your monthly statements against the receipts. If you find that there are any discrepancies or errors then ensure informing at the concerned address.
  • As per the EFTA and FCBA, the issuer of the card needs to look for the errors or discrepancies that have been sent to them within a time frame of two months from the time when the statement had been mailed by you.

Tips to Protect Your Debit Cards or ATM Cards

  • Avoid carrying the PIN number of your cards in your purse/wallet
  • Don't write the PIN number on the card. It is because if any stranger gets hold of the card he can also be aware of the PIN number which may further lead to a great trouble.
  • As mentioned earlier, don't write the PIN details on top of the envelope or deposit slip. It can either be lost or be seen with ease.
  • Prior to entering the PIN or signing the receipt make sure you are well aware of the transactions that have been made through the debit card.
  • Make sure to keep a track of your account on a periodic basis. This is all the more important if you have opted for online banking.
